Reo
The newest community in Spencer County is Reo, roughly equidistant between Rockport and Hatfield.
Ideally situated at the western intersection of Indiana 66 and U.S. 231, Reo was named after Rockport, Evansville and Owensboro, Ky.
The town was named in 1966 and has experienced remarkable growth in its short existence.
To the casual observer, Reo would appear to have more businesses than residences. However, several out-of-the-way subdivisions have been developed over the years--both north and south of the highway.
Reo was blessed with the new South Spencer High School in 1975 and a new middle school in 1997.
Some of the businesses in Reo include a service station, a new car dealership, two trucking companies, a restaurant, an industrial park, an orchard, a hardware store and many more.
Reo is also home to Holiday Drive-in, one of the only such facilities in the tri-state area. The five screen complex regularly draws patrons from surrounding counties.
In 1998, local investors built a new convenient store and fast-food restaurant at the intersection of Indiana 66 and U.S. 231.
