Lincoln City![]() Lincoln City is located on Highway 162 about 2 miles east of Gentryville. Another view of Lincoln City. Once considered a town that would grow into a big city, Lincoln City was named for the former president who grew up in the area. Not laid out until 1872, for a time, the town grew rapidly due to the railroad, farming area and local coal mines. At one time, passenger trains made 12 round trips a day to the area cities. Although the railroad still operates a freight line through the "city," the town is virtually all residential. It is visited by thousands of tourists every year who come to see where Abraham Lincoln was raised and educated. |
